Silly Boat Regatta

Celebrating 39 Years of Fun and Community Spirit at the Silly Boat Regatta!

The Silly Boat Regatta has become one of Nanaimo’s most beloved marine events, drawing over 8,000 participants and spectators, with more than 100 dedicated volunteers. As the largest community fundraiser for the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, this event is made possible thanks to the generosity of local business sponsors.

What truly makes this event a success year after year is the support from our amazing staff, volunteers, and community members who come together to create an unforgettable experience for all.

Silly Boats can be made from any recycled or recyclable materials, but must meet the following criteria:

They must float (even briefly),
Hold at least two people,
Be assembled on-site (materials can be pre-cut, but boats cannot be preassembled),
Powered by people or wind—no motors allowed!
The event also offers a wide range of free, fun activities for all ages, with many local organizations showcasing their community involvement. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!

Proceeds from the event directly support programs, services, and the purchase of therapeutic equipment for children with special needs and their families.
