Nanaimo Family History Society June Meeting
Monday, 1st June 2026 – IN-PERSON ONLY – Nanaimo Family History Society (NFHS) is holding its monthly informative meeting and presentation. There is no presenter for this final meeting for the season, however we have a fantastic birthday party, for members and all interested parties in celebrating the society’s 45th Anniversary. Most specifically, we want to say thank you to all members and volunteers whom have made an amazing contribution to the success of the organization.
Our society was formed in 1981 and is one of the oldest family history societies in British Columbia. Formed by two individuals when they advertised in the local papers for people interested in forming a family research club. After that initial meeting we became the Nanaimo Genealogy Club, a member of the British Columbia Genealogy Society, remaining a member for two years before becoming the Nanaimo Genealogy Club; in 1989 we registered under the Societies Act of British Columbia as a non-profit association and became the Nanaimo Family History Society.
The lifeblood of any ‘not-for-profit’ organization, like ours, only survives due to the volunteer-ism of its members. Our society strives to create a friendly atmosphere where people interested in genealogical research and family history, not only in Nanaimo but also across Canada and around the world, can come together. We promote, foster and encourage members to learn the principles, methods and effective techniques of genealogical research. We also collect, preserve, display and share information that may lead to a greater understanding of genealogy.
So, LET’S PARTY! Please come and join us in our birthday celebration and consider joining & volunteering an hour or two of your time a month to help make the organization even more fun & informative! Not only will you enjoy the social friendship, but you may learn some amazing resources and strategies for long-term success of your family history research from some highly respected professional and academic genealogists!
Our monthly meetings are free to our members and held via Zoom (and also In-Person in the spring and summer months). The upcoming party celebration is open to all and starts at 1:30 pm till 3:00 pm to be held at our usual venue – the Vancouver Island Regional Library (6250 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo).
