Doc Fingers & The Hot Hornets Fundraising Concert: A Tribute to the Great Songwriters

Doc Fingers and The Hot Hornets will dazzle the audience with their “Tribute to Great Songwriters” at St. George’s United Church on Saturday, October 4, 7pm.
This performance is a fundraising concert with a portion of ticket sales and all non-perishable food donations collected at the door to benefit the Comox Valley Foodbank. Tickets are $25 in advance on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/doc-finger-the-hot-hornets-fundraising-concert-tickets-1671123468279?aff=oddtdtcreator or $30 at the door. They are also available at Laughing Oyster Bookstore.
Doc Fingers, “the doctor of fingerology and a mean keys player,” is joining forces with the “Hot Hornets” for an evening tribute concert to “Great Songwriters.” Doc will be joined by legendary sax player and founder of the Powder Blues Band, Wayne Kozak, who is a master of west coast Canadian jazz & blues history. Versatile trumpet player Bryn Bad will round out the trio.
Doc Fingers, an extraordinary keyboard artist, has been hailed by the Vancouver Sun’s music critic, Neal Halls who says, “Good times music—it’s what the doctor ordered. When it comes for that therapeutic, good time, boogie-woogie blues, jazz, and rock-and-roll, there’s no one that can tickle the keys quite like the doctor.”
Doc, who earned his title while playing with the Ronnie Hawkins band in the 70s, has played with some seriously big names, including: David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Frank Zappa, Rita Coolidge, Bo Didley, Jim Byrnes, and many others.
Bryn has performed with Latin, jazz, blues and classical live ensembles in the finest concert halls on the planet. Fiery, edge-of-your-seat horn solos are guaranteed to light up the room.
Doc asked that the concert be dedicated to the late Anela Kahiomoe, a Comox Valley and Hawaiian musician who also played music around the world including St. George’s fundraisers with Doc.
St. George’s raises funds through a variety of events during the year to benefit local non-profits. In 2023, the church donated more than $40,000 to community groups, including Habitat for Humanity, LUSH, the Comox Valley Food Bank, the Coldest Night of the Year, the Comox Valley Child Development Association, the Transition Society, and many others.
Located in the heart of downtown Courtenay at 505 6th Street, St. George’s United Church is a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, justice-seeking community of faith that has been changing lives in the Comox Valley for over a century. Its vision is to be a Christian Church that is a beacon of God’s love and hope in the community, doing so through unconditional welcome, spiritual transformation, and reaching out in love for the common good.
St. George’s weekly Sunday service is at 10:30 am, followed by a coffee social in the fellowship hall.
Families with young children are very welcome. St. George’s has a diverse group of more than 30 young children who participate in the Children’s Church while their parents and grandparents remain in the main service. www.stgeorgesunited.com.
