Elk Falls Suspension Bridge

The Suspension bridge was a Rotary initiative opened in May 2014.  It hangs 64mtrs above the Campbell River canyon floor offering a top to bottom view of Elk Falls.  Located 8kms on the Gold River Hwy 28 from downtown Campbell River.  The Bridge is free to visit and walk on, it is approximately 55mtrs long and has a turn around platform at the other end.  The Cantilever platform that hangs out over the falls is spectacular both in sound and view.  If you manage to be there when water has been released from the dam, the falls are increased by 25 times the size and sometimes reach the other end of the canyon.  There is a 74 step climb down to the Cantilever platform and less to the bridge.  There is no wheelchair access to the platform or the suspension bridge. However, the top viewing platform is suitable to reach with a wheelchair. The Walk to the falls is a 1.4km walk from the parking lot which is situated at the John Hart Interpretive centre. Pit toilets and a picnic area are available at the entry point.  The suspension bridge is maintained by BC Parks and is for day use only.
